Insurance Policy

Athletes may not practice or compete without accident or health insurance in force. Coverage details are collected with the district athletic forms in FinalForms and must be kept current for the whole season.

Families who do not carry coverage must purchase a student accident policy before the first practice. The school office can point families to the student accident plans offered through the district and to Oregon Health Plan enrollment help.

The school and district do not provide primary medical insurance for athletes. Any district coverage is secondary and excess only, applying after the family's own insurance. Families are responsible for deductibles, co-pays, and uncovered charges.

Coaches are trained in first aid and CPR and will provide immediate care and call for emergency services when needed. Parents or guardians are contacted as soon as possible, using the emergency contacts on file.

Under Oregon's Max's Law, an athlete suspected of a concussion is removed from participation immediately and may not return until cleared in writing by a qualified health care professional. Coaches cannot override that clearance requirement.

Injuries must be reported to the coach the day they occur so an injury report can be filed. Filing a report does not create a claim; families submit claims through their own insurance carrier.

Athletics carry an inherent risk of injury, including serious injury. By registering, the parent or guardian acknowledges that risk, confirms the athlete is medically cleared to participate, and authorizes emergency treatment when a parent cannot be reached.
